AMS adds Country Music to Race weekend..Labor Day

HAMPTON, Ga. (July 7, 2009) – A Pre-Race Party celebration has been added to the schedule for the Sept. 6 Pep Boys Auto 500, Atlanta Motor Speedway’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup night race, giving race fans stage-front access for driver introductions and a pre-race concert with Diamond Rio and Jason Michael Carroll.

The Pre-Race Party will take place beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the Atlanta Motor Speedway frontstretch in front of the Champions Grandstand. The event features a combined two-hour concert with country legends Diamond Rio and rising-star Jason Michael Carroll and will be followed by pre-race festivities and NASCAR Sprint Cup driver introductions.

A limited number of stage-front passes are available for purchase at the Atlanta Motor Speedway Ticket Office at 877-9-AMS-TIX or 770-946-4211, or online at Pre-Race Party passes for stage-front access will sell for $49, with the first 200 specially-priced at $39. A Pep Boys Auto 500 ticket is required for admission to the party area.

“The ultimate NASCAR weekend just got even greater,” said Ed Clark, president and general manager of Atlanta Motor Speedway. “Fans are getting great racing, great musical entertainment and up-close access like never before. This Labor Day celebration is much more than a race and we’re going to great lengths to make the Pep Boys Auto 500 extra special for the fans.”

Drummer for Mellencamp, Survivor found dead in home

September 11, 2009 STNGWire A southwest suburban Lockport musician who played with Survivor, John Mellencamp and Deana Carter was found dead in his home Tuesday night.Kyle B. Woodring, 42, of the 15000 block of West 167th Street in Lockport, was pronounced dead in his home about 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Will County Coroner’s office. The coroner’s office said Woodring died from hanging, but the manner of death will be determined at the conclusion of a Lockport police investigation. Woodring, who the coroner’s office described as “an accomplished musician,” moved to Chicago from Michigan in 1987 and joined the band Survivor, according to Woodring’s Web site. Woodring also played drums on tours with John Mellencamp and county star Carter. He appeared on talk shows hosted by Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Wayne Brady, the site said.
