DAYTONA BEACH (Oct. 6, 2010)– The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) and Coca-Cola, the official soft drink of NASCAR, today announced “Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive,” a two-day fan fest in Miami featuring a free concert in South Beach headlined by Zac Brown Band. Created to thank fans as part of Ford Championship weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the concert also will be streamed live on NASCAR.COM to allow fans to view from around the world.
“Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive” rolls into town on Thursday, Nov. 18, with a grand-arrival parade of NASCAR race team “haulers” convoying Miami Beach to kick off the free two-day fan fest and concert. Scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET on Miami Beach at Lummus Park (between 7th and 9th Streets), GRAMMY®-award winning (Best New Artist) Zac Brown Band will perform fan favorites and songs from their new album “You Get What You Give,” which was released Sept. 21 and earned the No. 1 spot on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Country Albums charts.
“As NASCAR fans get ready for one of the most exciting weekends in all of motorsports anywhere in the world, ‘Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive’ is a chance to show our appreciation to the most loyal fans in sports,” said NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France. “Our partners have done a great job collaborating with Homestead-Miami Speedway and NASCAR to create a true marquee event for all fans enjoying a weekend crowning new champions for all three of our national series.”
NASCAR fans are familiar with the Georgia-based Zac Brown Band following performances at the October 2009 Talladega race and the 2010 Budweiser Shootout At Daytona. NASCAR also will feature Zac Brown Band’s unique sound– which blends country, roots, reggae and Southern rock– in a high-profile advertising campaign airing in the beginning of the 2011 NASCAR racing season during race broadcasts, similar to previous programs with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matchbox 20, O.A.R. and Lenny Kravitz.
“We’re excited to be a part of the NASCAR Championship Drive,” said Zac Brown. “Over the past few years we’ve had the opportunity to participate in a few NASCAR events and it’s always fun for the whole band. Not only does everyone make us feel at home when we’re on the track but we have a great respect for the sport itself.”
“Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive” will take place at Lummus Park and offer distinct areas of participation from official NASCAR partners, including the Coca-Cola Refreshment Center, Coors Light Beer Garden, and interactive fan areas from Camping World, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Kraft, Nationwide Insurance, Sprint, Sunoco, Toyota and more.
Fans in attendance will enjoy driver question-and-answer sessions, contests such as “Fast Lane Trivia,” giveaways from the NASCAR Street Tour, and the “NASCAR Hot and Spicy Cook-off” competition featuring chefs representing fire departments throughout Miami-Dade County. Fans also will be able to drive race car simulators, change tires in a pit crew challenge, test their skills piloting remote-controlled cars, get their photographs taken inside a stock car, check out the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series trophy and more.
“With the first ever ‘Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive’, we’re offering fans a new way to come together and celebrate the culmination of the championships across all three series,” said Beatriz Perez, chief marketing officer, Coca-Cola North America. “With an exciting live performance in South Beach and the concert streamed online, we continue to bring NASCAR fans closer to Coca-Cola and the sport they love – both at the track and beyond.”
“We have very unique partners in NASCAR and Coca-Cola who recognize the value in shifting into another gear for Ford Championship Weekend,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matt Becherer. “Miami knows how to host championships, and a live performance on the beach with Zac Brown Band amps up an already phenomenal experience for race fans coming to see NASCAR’s 2010 champions crowned. We’re looking forward to getting Ford Championship Weekend started early.”
Promotional support for “Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive” will include a heavy presence on NASCAR.COM, including a dedicated micro-site; outdoor and radio advertisements on Miami’s WKIS-FM and WAXY-AM; newspaper ads in the Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel and Miami New Times; and a social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter.
The “Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive” was created with the support of the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, the Miami-Dade Sports Commission, the Florida Sports Foundation and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau.
