Lee Ann Womack Scores ANOTHER Female Vocalist NominationAcademy of Country Music Recognizes Multiple ACM, CMA, Grammy Winner
Nashville: She has won every award imaginable with her crystalline brand of true country, that sparkles as well as shines on country radio,, yet there is still nothing happier than hearing the news that's she's nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year. So this morning was a good morning for Lee Ann Womack, who picked up her 11th nomination with the Academy of Country Music.
“I got up on the good side of the bed even before I got out of bed,” laughs the modern traditionalist. “You know, I just keep making my kind of country, finding the best songs I can and singing them with every bit of feeling I can draw on… To know that people recognize that? You can't make records or sing with that as the end result, but it sure is nice to know that my peers respect this music I've been making, and they see the value in what I do.”
The people who recognize Womack's sparkling voice and impeccable song choice run the gamut, from Willie Nelson to Cross Canadian Ragweed, Julie and Buddy Miller to Alan Jackson, not to mention country standard-setter George Strait. Such a fan of Womack's artistry, Strait hand-selected Womack to open his current Strait/Reba McEntire tour that's wowing fans of classic country music for modern times everywhere they are playing.
“I've been lucky in the people who've heard my music, and the way they feel about,” the songstress with the silvery vvoice explains. “When I was growing up in Texas, my father was a d.j. He always said there were songs for right now, and there were songs that stood the test of time. He always encouraged me to know the difference and to strive to find songs that people would - hopefully - be listening to twenty years from now. He taught me that's the thing that really matters in the end, not the trends but songs that touch you now and touch you if you hear it twenty years and two husbands later.”
For Womack, known for the multiple-genre tender blessing “I Hope You Dance,” as well as the award-winning “Last Call,” the fiery take on Rodney Crowell's “Ashes By Now” and the plucky honky tonk of “I'll Think of a Reason Later,” things that last embrace the quality that represents the best of what country is. With that uncompromising sense of music, songs that speak to the subtlety of the condition and a voice that is all heart, she continues to strive to touch the fans.
“Out there with George and Reba, you can see how much those people live those songs… how this music is their life,” confesses the woman whose “There Is A God” is currently climbing the charts. “They don't have a place to say these things, but when someone says it in a song, you're saying it for them… and that gives them a reason to cheer, to feel like someone knows how they feel, maybe even talk about it with someone else. To me, that's what being nominated for Female Vocalist is really all about!”
With the George Strait/Reba McEntire tour pulling into Memphis on Thursday, March 4, followed by Little Rock and New Orleans this weekend, the tiny vocal powerhouse is certainly a girl in motion. But with an Academy of Country Music Top Female Vocalist nomination now in place, there's one more star on the horizon.
