COULD IT GET ANY BETTER FOR
ACM TOP NEW VOCAL DUO WINNER JOEY+RORY?
“A Little More Country Than That” Makes Rory’s
4th Number One Penned Song
Nashville, TN – (March 22, 2010) – Last week, husband and wife duo Joey+Rory were named ACM’s Top New Vocal Duo and are now considered nominees for the Top New Artist award. This week, the couple, also nominated for ACM Vocal Duo, will perform and receive their “New Duo” trophy during a taping of theTrace Adkins-hosted GAC special “ACM Top New Artists,” which will premiere Thursday, April 1.
"Wow, where do we begin?” laughs Rory. “It sure feels nice to know that so many people out there care enough about us and our music that they took the time to go online and vote for us for ACM Top New Duo."
"I grew up gathered around the TV with my family watching my favorite singers win
ACM awards," exclaims Joey. "I can't believe we've actually won one."
Amidst award announcements, touring with Zac Brown Band and in-store appearances with sponsor Carhartt, Joey+Rory found out today Rory has penned the number one country song in the nation with “A Little More Country Than That.”
“What a blessing to wake up in the midst of all this and find out a song that you and two of your buddies wrote is at the top of the charts!” said Rory. “Little More Country's a song that speaks about Joey and I, just as much as it does about Easton, and we've been proudly singing it every night in our show.”
When it comes to writing hit songs, Rory has had his share of experience and good fortune. His very first cut became a number one for Collin Raye entitled “Someone You Used to Know.” Others followed including the “The Chain of Love” by Clay Walker and the multi-week number one “Some Beach” by Blake Shelton. In 2009, he was awarded two of ASCAP's Most Played Songs for “I Will” by Jimmy Wayne and "You Can Let Go" by Crystal Shawanda.
Joey+Rory’s upcoming album, simply titled Album #2, will be released this summer and fans can expect an album full of hit songs penned by the duo. Their debut album titled The Life of a Song debuted #10 on the Billboard Country Album Chart and remained on the charts for 50 weeks selling 200,000 copies. Joey+Rory's debut single "Cheater Cheater" was not only their first Top 30 hit at country radio but also became a nationwide Top 10 Dance Club hit. The single peaked at #3 on iTunes Top Country Album Chart with over 400,000 downloads.
Last year CMT named them one of the Top 10 Artists of 2009 and they garnered a string of nominations including CMA Vocal Duo of the Year, ACM’s Top Vocal Duo Award and CMT Nationwide Insurance ‘On Your Side’ Award. The duo and their music are featured in a number of national television ads forOverstock.com. On April 30th, they join over 100 acts who will perform at MerleFest 2010.
