Kenny Chesney Returns To “Oprah” on April 9In-Studio Tape March 27, PreTape In Key West Already Done
Chicago: As Kenny Chesney's “year off” continues at breakneck speed, the man who's just finished his “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3-D” - which arrives in movies theatres across the country April 21 - is heading to Chicago this Saturday, March 27, to spend some more quality time with Oprah Winfrey for an episode that airs April 9. Providing a first peak at the movie, centered around 5 of the singer/songwriter's dozen NFL stadium shows from last year, Chesney will also give Oprah a view into the man who exists beyond the rock star.
“If there's one thing about Oprah,” Chesney says of the talk show host/cultural force, “it's the way she makes you feel so comfortable and so understood. I've done her show three times, I think, and every time, you work harder than you realize - cause you just want to be as good as she is - and you open up more than you knew you could… and sometimes you even find out things about yourself. Or at least, I do!
“So when we started talking about where to take this movie… to bring people into what it was, how it came together, what it means to me…,” Chesney continues. “I figured this movie came out of a whole bunch of dreams I've had over the years; where would be the dream place to show people what we've been doing? And really, there's only one place: 'The Oprah Winfrey Show.' And just like jamming with my idols onstage, or playing the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia or selling out Gillette Stadium all those years ago, if you're willing to dream it, it can happen.”
Certainly Chesney's had a lot of dreams come true: from taking batting practice with he Boston Red Sox, being drafted and working out with the New Orleans Sanits, co-producing the acclaimed Moment of Forever with Willie Nelson, written #1 songs for himself (“Beer In Mexico,”) and others (Rascal Flatts “Take Me There”) as well as the forward for ESPN's Mike and Mike's upcoming release Mike & Mike's Rules for Sports & Life. For Oprah's 25th and final season, the 4-consecutive Academy of Country Music and 4-time Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year will experience a first that's very close to his heart.
“When the producer's put the question to me, it took me back,” says the high energy musician from East Tennessee. “In some ways, obviously, I have the means to do whatever I'd truly want to do, but sometimes that means stopping and looking around. With our schedule that's not always as easy as you'd think. Sometimes, too, people will do things for Oprah, they might not do for the rest of us.”
Without giving away the secret, Chesney took a field team from “Oprah” with him to the Florida Keys for a very special afternoon. Hard at work on his next album, Chesney's watching “Ain't Back Yet,” which has been added to his Greatest Hits II, moving up the country radio charts. The end theme from his April 21 released “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3-D,” “Aint Back Yet” captures the verve, the rush and the way dreams drive you to some pretty amazing, crazy places along the way.
