Legendary Guitarist James Burton To Donate Guitars
At Michael Martin Murphey’s WESTFEST® 2010
RIFLE, Colorado — Legendary guitarist James Burton will donate three signed guitars at Michael Martin Murphey’s WESTFEST® 2010 this weekend (Aug. 13 - 15) at the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle, Colorado.
Burton, who is known for his work with such artists as Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, John Denver, Roy Orbison and Emmylou Harris, will be donating the guitars through his James Burton Foundation, which is dedicated to providing musical scholarships and instruments to children as well as young adults. Through his humble beginnings, Burton learned that a quality professional instrument is very important and it’s been his dream to give back to the musical community by helping the young musicians realize their potential. So far, the Foundation has been able to give away a few thousand guitars to kids, thanks to the donations made and the benefits from the Guitar Festivals.
Burton will join fellow guitar wizards Doyle Dykes and Pat Flynn for the Guitar Shootout, set for Sunday afternoon during Westfest.
Also joining Murphey will be Craig Morgan, Patty Loveless, James Otto, Bill Miller, Bluegrass Legend Peter Rowan, Don Edwards, Waddie Mitchell and Trailer Choir, Ryan Murphey, Carin Mari and Pony Express, Cowgirl Poet Sarah Murphey, The Prairie Rose Wranglers, and a host of local cowboy singers and poets, Indian musicians and dancers, and Mountain Man Story Tellers and hundreds of Western Lifestyle Arts and Crafts Masters.
Murphey founded WESTFEST® in 1986 as a way to preserve memories and images of the Old West. “I wanted to present the West to people who might otherwise perceive it only through a movie director's tunnel vision,” said Murphey. “The West has become synonymous with fantasy. If Hollywood trends are any indication, the movie screens are alive with politically correct Indians and environmentally-challenged villains. Today, Cowboys and Indians are united in their quest for open range and a life of freedom. I want to show the Real American West!"
Michael Martin Murphey is the world’s Number One selling songwriter / singer of American Cowboy Music and member of the Western Music Hall of Fame, and is well known for his smash pop and country hits including “Wildfire,” “Carolina In The Pines,” “Long Line of Love”, “What’s Forever For” and “Cowboy Logic,” among others. His "Cowboy Songs" album is the first Gold Album of Cowboy Music since Marty Robbins. His current album, Buckaroo Blue Grass II: Riding Song, is the followup to his 2009 Grammy nominated release, Buckaroo Blue Grass.
