Andy Williams’ Moon River Theatre Presents His Annual Christmas Show, November 1 – December 7
Author of “Moon River and Me” returns to his Branson, Missouri Stage
It’s that time of year when you’re beginning to think about roasting chestnuts on an open fire, trimming the tree and going out and getting all the gifts that will turn into that intimidating pile which will have to be wrapped. So, maybe you should take a break and spend some time with one of your favorite Christmas-time friends.
No, it’s not Saint Nick – It’s Andy Williams, America’s musical ambassador of Christmas. Andy is currently on tour promoting his new memoir, “Moon River and Me,” and preparing his 2009 Christmas stage show, which will appear at his Moon River Theatre in Branson, November 1st through December 7th. Featuring dazzling production numbers, which look like Christmas cards come to life, Andy will be joined by a cast of singers, dancers and costumed characters, and perform all of the seasonal favorites as well as many of his greatest hits.
There are many who remember sitting in front of the television each year and watching Andy and his family and their Christmas celebration. Millions of Americans made that viewing a holiday tradition for many years. The popularity of the television special led to the idea of putting together a seasonal concert. Andy would play 25 to 30 cities each Holiday period. In recent years, he began to lessen the number of cities he played and began to present the Christmas Show at the Moon River Theatre in Branson
Former President Ronald Reagan once referred to Andy Williams’ voice as “a national treasure.” Andy’s legendary career began at the tender age of eight as part of The Williams Brothers Quartet. In 1951 the Brothers decided to each pursue their own solo careers. Andy went to New York and became a regular performer on Steve Allen’s “Tonight Show.” His first album was released in 1956 and that same year he had three hits, including his first Top 10 record, “Canadian Sunset.” In the next three years he had a string of hits, including his first #1 “Butterfly,” “Are You Sincere,” “Lonely Street” and “The Hawaiian Wedding Song,” for which he received the first of his five Grammy Award nominations. Around the same time he hosted his first network television series and began a long string of specials. In the 60’s he released such hits as “Can’t Get Used To Losing You,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” “Charade,” “Dear Heart” and “Love Story.” During this period he also appeared on the Academy Awards and performed what has become his theme song ever since, “Moon River.” During his career Andy has amassed almost 20 gold albums and three that reached platinum status.
In the Fall of 1963, Andy premiered his NBC variety show, “The Andy Williams Show,” which would last nine years, win three Emmy Awards and lead to the first of his classic Christmas specials. He has since gone on to become a true international superstar, with tremendous worldwide record sales and record breaking tours on four continents. This marks Andy’s 16th season at the Moon River Theatre. He continues to perform almost 200 shows a year at his theater. He works just as hard today as he did when his career began. The only difference is he loves what he’s doing even more today than he did back then.
