Clint Black now a TV Show Executive Producer...

LOS ANGELES, August 10, 2009 – Prolific performer, Grammy-winning recording artist and accomplished music video director Clint Black has been named executive producer of ITV Studios’ (formerly Granada America) television anthology series “American Storytellers.”

ITV Studios, Roberts/David Films and Sony/ATV Music Publishing have teamed up to develop current and classic country music hits into a series of one-hour dramatic episodes for television.

“American Storytellers” will capture the lives, loves, adventures, joys and tragedies that have been put to music by yesterday’s and today’s leading performers and songwriters.

Black began directing his own music videos and was the first to create them on large format, 65mm film. He has toured with Wynonna (billed as Black & Wy), and they reached No. 2 with a duet ballad, "A Bad Goodbye." Throughout the 90s, Black racked up more No. 1 hits, including "When My Ship Comes In," "A Good Run of Bad Luck," "Summer's Comin'," "Like the Rain," "Nothin' but the Taillights," "The Shoes You're Wearing" and a duet with Hartman, "When I Said I Do." Black wrote most of his hits with longtime touring guitarist, Hayden Nicholas.

Mark Roberts and Lorena David brought the project to ITV Studios and will executive produce along with Joel C. High of Creative Control Entertainment. Talks are underway with some of the top artists associated with country music in relation to roles on both sides of the camera.

“Clint Black is among the elite of country music and having him involved with this series will elevate it on many levels,” said Roberts. “He is a master storyteller through both his music and his video productions and is held in high regard by all segments of the entertainment industry.”

“American Storytellers” comes on the heels of one of the best years for country music in recent history. The series will focus on hit songs that have struck a chord with loyal Country fans as well as the crossover crowd.

Black won CMA awards in 1993 for the George Jones collaboration "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair" and in 1994 for the tribute album, Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles. He also charted with a cover of the Eagles' classic "Desperado." In addition, his 1998 participation in the all-star single "Same Old Train" won him a Grammy. His duet partners have included Roy Rogers, Martina McBride and Steve Wariner. A song he wrote with Merle Haggard, "Untanglin' My Mind," reached the Top 5 in 1994.
