A major country music festival has just been confirmed for Memorial Day Weekend 2010, May 29 & 30, at famed LSU Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, organizers of the event announced today. Festival Productions, AEG Live and The Messina Group will bring together some of the biggest names in country music to perform at the inaugural event in Louisiana's capital city.
Tentatively dubbed the Bayou Country Superfest, the mega-event will feature two jammed-packed days of music and much more on the campus of Louisiana State University. The Festival's talent lineup, ticket structure, hotel information and many other details will be released in the fall.
Quint Davis, CEO of FPI-NO, which produces the world-famous New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell, that annually draws hundreds of thousands of music fans, said, "Great, successful festivals combine a unique setting, high-quality entertainment and superior production values. The country superfest in Baton Rouge at Tiger Stadium is a destination event that feels like it was destined to be." Davis added, "Working closely with the Mayor's Office of Baton Rouge, the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the LSU Athletic Department, we have laid a strong foundation for this new annual celebration."
Baton Rouge Mayor-President Melvin L. "Kip" Holden strongly supports the creation of this new major event. "Large festivals not only allow us to market our city and parish nationally and even internationally; they also bring tremendous economic impact," said Holden. "Country Fest will give Baton Rouge a great, family entertainment event, but it will also give visitors another reason to come and enjoy all we have to offer.
Paul Arrigo, president and CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitors Bureau said that Memorial Day Weekend is a perfect time for an annual event to beheld in Baton Rouge, "The festival is being planned for a time when we need business the most as most hotels are available, the universities are on break and many people tend to leave the city." Arrigo encourages Baton Rouge residents to not only support the event, but to invite their out of town friends and family to visit the Capital City for the festival.
Joe Alleva, Athletic Director for LSU noted, "Tiger Stadium is a perfect venue for a major country music festival and we couldn't have asked for a better partner than Quint Davis and Festival Productions, Inc.-New Orleans. This will bring in the largest names in music and will create a great event for all of the LSU community and the entire Baton Rouge area."
