Tragic Fire at Charlie Daniels Tennessee Ranch

Fire struck Charlie Daniel's Tennessee ranch Friday night January 7th about 10pm...Not sure who found the fire or how it started but it was tragic. Fire hit the barn filled with treasured animals. Charlie and wife Hazel were away in Colorado. He is so good about going on his web site and answering questions about new he is involved with. and her is his blog on the fire.... We are all sorry for your losses Charlie...

New Beginnings

Thurman Mullins, Twin Pines Ranch manager, called me in the early evening yesterday, Friday, Jan. 7th, and told me that our big barn was on fire and the roof was just about to cave in. I am currently 1500 miles away in Colorado and couldn't do a thing but take periodical phone reports and cell phone pictures of what was going on.

Of course the CDB family started calling to see if there was anything they could do. David and Carolyn Corlew and Roger and Terry Campbell went to the site to see if there was anything they could do to help Thurman out.

My business manager, J.B. Copeland, immediately got on the phone to the insurance company to let them know what had happened, and my publicist, Paula Szeigis, issued a media statement, and others in my organization were standing by, a phone call away if they were needed.

I'm not bragging, I am simply stating a fact. My people are the best and there's nobody I'd rather have watching my back.

Terry Ashe, our Wilson County Sheriff, and Wes Neely, a local policeman, came and stayed until the danger to other property was past, and the Wilson County Fire Department was nothing short of great. Since we didn't have a fire hydrant close to the barn they had to haul water in on trucks and did so for the biggest part of the night.

Actually there was nothing anybody could do as attested to by a picture my son, Charlie, Jr., sent me on his cell phone. The barn and everything in it are a total loss.

As of this morning, Saturday Jan 8th, the barn area is taped off and will be too hot for the insurance inspectors to enter so the cleanup won't be able to start for a few days.

By far my biggest regret in the whole situation is the eleven good horses and the one Corriente bull we lost in the fire. We lost all three of our stud horses, one representing our foundation bloodline, and a mare that was in foal with a colt we really wanted, but if they'd only been nags I would have regretted the thoughts of my horses burning in a barn fire just as much.

We lost both tractors, all our saddles and tack, a dually pickup and horse trailer, quite a bit of hay and feed, and no telling what memorabilia we had left there over the years.

As bad as I hate the loss, Thurman is having a much harder time dealing with it. Some of these horses were special to him, and nobody loves horses and cares for their welfare like he does.

I had a conversation with him this morning and told him there's nothing we can do about yesterday. What's done is done, but that we can certainly deal with what's going on today and today is a day of new beginnings.

We will rebuild, we'll replace the hay and buy new saddles and build back our bloodline. We'll replace the tractors and tack and all the other things that are necessary in the operation of Twin Pines Ranch.

There will be new colts and calves gracing our pastures next year and Leroy will be bush-hogging Sugar Hill just like always.

The sun will rise, the moon will set, the rain will fall, the grass will grow, the creek will run and Twin Pines Ranch will have a new barn.

God is in His heaven, He is in control, and He loves us and will provide for our needs.

And that's all we need.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops, and for our country.

God Bless America

Charlie Daniels

  1. When I was about 17 I had the pleasure of visiting that very barn and your home with your niece Kim. My mom was friends with Merletta Lambert then and Kim was visiting us off and on in STL. I absolutely adored the barn area and have loads of pics from my treasured visit there.
Indeed, GOD is in his Heaven in our hearts and all will be restored. God bless you and yours.
