Superstar Martina McBride Joins American Idol Winner Jordin Sparks for Upcoming VH1 Divas
September 15th, 2009 (Nashville, TN) -- For those who love big voices, big hits and lots of glamour, VH1 Divas is never one to disappoint. This year's special will air September 17th and as always, the star power is bigger than ever, including multi-platinum award-winner Martina McBride. McBride will share the stage with American Idol winner, and Diva performer, Jordin Sparks, in a first-ever collaboration.
VH1 Divas reinvents itself this year with a crop of new, young superstars, including Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis. While relatively new to the entertainment scene, these women are poised to join the ranks of the most legendary women and voices of our times. Past Divas have included Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Carole King, and Tina Turner, to name a few.
Arguably one of the highest profile television music specials ever produced, VH1 Divas brings together music’s most powerful women and greatest performers live on one stage. The very first VH1 Divas special took place just over ten years ago, and it became one of the most anticipated music and pop culture events of the entertainment year.
Tune in to VH1 Divas, live September 17th, 2009 at 9/8c to see Martina and Jordin grace the stage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
McBride’s powerhouse vocals have earned her more than 18 million in album sales, garnered 23 Top 10 singles, six of which ranked number one, and awarded her a mantle of honors, including a record-tying four CMA Female Vocalist of the Year trophies. The Kansas native's fiery, passionate vocals have created such signature hits as "Independence Day," "Wild Angels," "A Broken Wing," "Blessed" and "This One's for the Girls." These songs along with hits such as "Concrete Angel," "Love's the Only House," "God's Will" and "Anyway" have become not only memorable musical statements but resounding social commentaries as well. Martina’s current single is the beautiful love song, “I Just Call You Mine,” from her chart-topping album Shine.
