JASON ALDEAN BEATS OUT KATY PERRY AND RHIANNA FOR THE “BREAKTHROUGH AWARD”
AT BILLBOARD’S TOURING AWARDS
Aldean Earns CMA Awards for “Album of The Year” and “Musical Event of the Year”
Nashville, TN – Nov. 11, 2011 – Multi-platinum country rocker Jason Aldean scored the “Breakthrough Award” at the Billboard Touring Awards last night at New York City’s Roosevelt Hotel, beating out pop sensations Katy Perry and Rhianna. The award is based on ticket sales and data from Billboard Boxscore’s top tour recap, going to the highest grossing artist who cracks that list for the first time in his or her career. Previous winners include Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake.
“This has been an incredible week for us,” said Aldean. “I got my first-ever CMA Awards on Wednesday, and now to win something based on touring – that’s what it’s all about for me. I’m really proud of our live show, so to be honored for it is pretty special. Makes me want to get out there and do it even bigger and better next year!”
The “Breakthrough Award” recognizes Aldean’s MY KINDA PARTY TOUR, which sold out more than 50 arenas and amphitheatres across the nation this year and smashed several venue attendance records. The 2012 leg of the MY KINDA PARTY TOUR will pick up Jan. 20 in Greenville, SC.
Additionally, Aldean took home his first two CMA trophies this week for “Album of the Year” for MY KINDA PARTY and “Musical Event of the Year” for “Don’t You Wanna Stay” feat. Kelly Clarkson. He is also up for Male Country Artist and Country Album at the Nov. 20 American Music Awards, is tied for the most nominations at the Dec. American Country Awards with eight and is one of five CMT Artists of the Year honorees for the second consecutive year.
