DARIUS RUCKER INVITED TO JOIN GRAND OLE OPRY

Formal Induction to air live on “Noteworthy At The Opry” October 16
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - (October 2, 2012) Award-winning country music artist Darius Rucker was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry this evening by Opry member and friend Brad Paisley. He will formally be inducted into the Opry on Tues., Oct. 16. That show will air live on “Noteworthy at the Opry” on GAC at 8 p.m. Central. After Rucker had performed his hits “Alright” and “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” as well as his current single “True Believers,” Rucker agreed to field questions from members of the audience. After answering questions posed by two fans, a third “fan”, Opry member Brad Paisley, appeared in the audience with a two-part question. First question: “Are you still the worst poker player in the world?” Second question: “Would you like to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry?” Managing an “Oh, you’re kiddin’ me,” “Yes, I would!” and “Wow!,” Rucker embraced Paisley, who added, “Welcome him home, everybody! This is his new home right here!” After Rucker performed “Wagon Wheel” and Paisley performed a set of his own, Rucker returned to the stage saying, “You guys got to share one of the most special nights of my life tonight.” Addressing his new Opry family, he added, “Thank you for opening your arms and letting me in.” “We are extremely excited that Darius will be joining our Opry family,” said Opry Vice President and General Manager Pete Fisher. “He’s forged an incredible, diverse musical path which has led today to the top of the country charts. It’s been clear from the moment Darius first stepped on our stage in 2008 in what high regard he holds the Grand Ole Opry and similarly how much Opry fans love Darius’ music. We look forward to him becoming an official Opry member in just a couple of weeks.” Rucker topped the charts again with the release of his sophomore country album, Charleston, SC 1966, on Capitol Records Nashville. Since its October 2010 debut, Charleston, SC 1966 has garnered two No. 1 hits with “Come Back Song” and “This.” USA Today raved, "Rucker has made a fine-sounding country album, full of singable choruses, bittersweet fiddle and steel, and guitars with bottomless twang," and Rolling Stone said, “On his Nashville debut, Rucker's rich baritone, sentimental ballads and bright hooks made him the most successful African-American country singer since Charley Pride. Rucker amps up that formula on album number two." The debut in referral is his chart-topping 2008 release, Learn To Live – an album that produced three consecutive No. 1 singles and Top 5 smash, “History In The Making.” Darius recently completed his third solo country album due out in early 2013 with lead single, “True Believers,” at radio now. ARRESTED now in Colorado...but what a story and week for 2 brothers and their stripper sister! Text messages and tweets by three fugitive siblings who shot at a police officer and robbed a bank reveal a dangerous mindset and a firm bond between the siblings, "We've certainly seen their mindset when... They shot at a law enforcement officer outside of Tampa Bay, Fla., and when they fired inside that bank in Valdosta, Ga. But these additional texts and tweets have given us additional insight," FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett told "Good Morning America" today. " We are concerned and feel that they are going to continue and cause problems to say the least for law enforcement." Ryan Dougherty, 21; his sister Lee Grace E. Dougherty, 29; and half-brother Dylan Dougherty Stanley, 26, have been on the lam since Aug. 2 when they shot at a police officer attempting to pull their white Subaru Impreza over for speeding.
