Nashville, Tenn. (October 10, 2012) - Entertainment icon Barbra Streisand has included the Larry Gatlin-penned “Try To Win A Friend” on her latest album, Release Me. Originally recorded in the late 1970s, Streisand picked the song from her vault, which contains recordings spanning from 1963 to 2011.
“Try To Win A Friend” was one of Streisand’s favorite songs to play as she practiced her new guitar skills for the filming of “A Star is Born.” Unfortunately, the scenes she was practicing for ended up on the cutting room floor but she recalls meeting Gatlin and practicing the song with him in her home.
“I remember meeting Larry Gatlin and having him come over to my house,” recalls Streisand. “It was such a thrill to have him play it and I love the way he sang.”
On Streisand releasing his song, Gatlin notes, “If I could pick one female pop artist to record one of my songs, it would be Barbra, and every songwriter on the planet would agree. If they tell you different, they’re lyin’! Thank you Barbra!”
A special vinyl version of Release Me hit retail stores on September 25 and the CD and digital download were released nationally yesterday.
