Luke Bryan’s #1 Country Album, tailgates & tanlines, Sells 145,296 Units In Its First Week
Current Single “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” Sold Over 1 Million Downloads
Nashville, TN (August 17, 2011) – Capitol Records Nashville recording artist Luke Bryan’s third studio album, tailgates & tanlines, tops Billboard’s Country Album chart and clinches the #2 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart this week, with over 145,296 units sold. tailgates & tanlines is also the second highest selling debut for a country release this year behind Brad Paisley. Additionally, the album’s lead single and Top 5 smash, “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” has sold over 1 million downloads and is his best-selling single to date.
“I’m very proud of this album, and to have fans connect with the music in this way is exciting and really humbling,” says Bryan. “When I was writing and recording this project, I wanted to make an album which made people forget about all the other things in their lives that might stress them out and just have fun! And to have this kind of response from my fans makes me feel like that goal was accomplished!”
The huge success of tailgates & tanlines more than doubles the first week sales numbers from his Gold-certified sophomore release, Doin’ My Thing, which produced three back-to-back #1 singles — adding to an already career-changing year for the Georgia native.
Bryan is now gearing up to headline the 10th annual CMT ON TOUR – a tour which has a strong history of young country acts on the cusp of superstar status. Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Sugarland, Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts are among the artists who have headlined this tour in the past. CMT ON TOUR: LUKE BRYAN TAILGATES & TANLINES is set to kick off September 15 in Huntington, West Virginia at Big Sandy Superstore Arena and will play 22 shows before wrapping on November 19 in Monroe, Louisiana.
