CMA PRESENTS TRIPLE PLAY AWARDS AT ANNUAL SONGWRITERS LUNCHEON
CMA FOUNDATION DONATES $250,000 TO HELP CONSTRUCT THE NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME AT THE NEW MUSIC CITY CENTER NASHVILLE – The CMA Foundation is donating $250,000 to help construct the first-ever physical Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame at the new Music City Center. The announcement was made today by CMA Board Chairman and member of The CMA Foundation Troy Tomlinson during the annual CMA Triple Play Awards and Songwriters Luncheon at Marathon Music Works in Nashville. “Songwriters are an important constituency group for the Country Music Association,” said Tomlinson. “For the CMA Foundation to see fit to honor the songwriters in order to preserve the legacy of their work and creative impact on the format, speaks to the very heart of why the CMA Foundation was created.” The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame consists of two elements. The actual Hall of Fame inside the Music City Center will feature graphic displays and artifacts as well as a state-of-the-art interactive, digital exhibit. Outside the Music City Center’s Hall of Fame lobby will be a “Songwriters Square” complex, consisting of an exterior plaza and stair-step walkway that will be engraved with the names of Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame members, the year they were inducted, and the title of their most well-known composition. The project will be unveiled when the Music City Center officially opens this summer. “Honoring the accomplishments of our songwriting community is important to CMA,” said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “The CMA Foundation’s decision to fund this important initiative is just another example of our commitment to preserving the legacy and recognizing excellence in our songwriter community.” The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1970 and boasts 188 members representing all genres of music. For 42 years, the Hall of Fame has been a virtual one, until the announcement that it would occupy space in the Music City Center. Members include Bobby Braddock, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Rodney Crowell, Hal David, CMA Board member Bob DiPiero, Bob Dylan, Don and Phil Everly, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Vince Gill, Harlan Howard, Alan Jackson, Bob McDill, Roger Miller, Bill Monroe, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton, Carl Perkins, Dottie Rambo, Jimmie Rodgers, Don Schlitz, Cindy Walker, Jimmy Webb, Hank Williams Sr., and Hank Williams, Jr. “As a past songwriter member of the CMA Board, it is so inspiring to have the CMA Foundation help honor the songwriters whose timeless songs are the bedrock of our Country Music industry,” said Pat Alger, a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and Chair of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation Board. “The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation is truly grateful for this generous contribution – it exemplifies the CMA Foundation’s commitment to enriching the heritage of all of its members.” “We are truly overwhelmed at this lead gift from the CMA Foundation as the ultimate show of respect and admiration for songwriters,” said John Van Mol, 2011-12 Chairman of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation Board and CEO of DVL Public Relations & Advertising. “It is a big and important exclamation point as we continue to work on securing long-term operating funds so this Hall of Fame can be enjoyed for generations to come.” “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to outreach to this important constituent group and demonstrate our appreciation for the outstanding talent and undeniable contributions made by our songwriters to the popularity and vitality of Country Music,” said Kitty Moon Emery, Chair of The CMA Foundation Board of Directors. CMA created The CMA Foundation (a nonprofit 501c3) in 2011. The Foundation exists to provide financial support to worthwhile causes that are important to CMA and the Country Music community. The group places special emphasis on serving the needs of CMA’s core constituents and nonprofit organizations with initiatives that preserve the legacy of the format, support music education, and respond to other needs identified by CMA.

“Come Over,” “The Good Stuff,” “No Shoes,” GH II Certified Nashville: Music comes, music goes, only the most empowering endures. For Kenny Chesney, that means the new year is starting not just with the platinum certification for his surging entreaty for the inevitable post-break-up hook-up “Come Over,” but platinum recognition for his Greatest Hits II and golden certifications for “The Good Stuff” and “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” from his quadruple platinum No Shoes project. “You hope when you record a song, it’s something the fans can live inside,” explains the four consecutive Academy of Country Music and four-time Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year, “I’ve always tried to pick songs that felt true to who I am, how I’ve lived… or the people around me, and I think that since where I come from isn’t so different from anywhere else, it’s a safe bet other people have lived this stuff, too. “If people can see themselves in these songs… especially ones like ‘No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems’ and ‘The Good Stuff’… then I can feel good about it not just being a moment, but a truth. As a songwriter, that’s what you’re reaching for, and as a fan, it’s everything about what the songs that have marked my life meant to me.” Starting with October’s gold certification of Welcome To The Fishbowl and the CMA Vocal Event of the Year “Feel Like A Rock Star” with good friend Tim McGraw, Chesney’s watched Greatest Hits II and “Come Over” mine platinum, while the new year saw “The Good Stuff “ and “No Shoes” both reach gold status. For a man who’s sold in excess of 30 million records, the notion that the music is still connecting is what really matters. “I’ve always tried to speak for the people who don’t make the news, who don’t freak out or stand out,” Chesney says. “You know, there are a lot more people like us in the world, and I think that’s where life’s sweet spot really is. When I look at songs, I’m trying to figure what hasn’t been said, or needs to be said for people like us. Doing it like that, it’s never been ‘Is this a song for the ages?’ or ‘Is this a big ole hit?,’ but more, ‘Do I know somebody who’s been here?’ I think people can tell the difference. Maybe that’s why Greatest Hits II and ‘The Good Stuff’ are still selling.” With a trip to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo on March 12 as warm-up, Chesney kicks off his No Shoes Nation Tour of stadiums, amphitheaters and arenas March 16 at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, home of the Buccaneers. And listen for “Pirate Flag,” Chesney’s pulsing anthem of real life insurrection, to hit radio Jan. 31.

Touching Video Features Real Life Families from Across the Country Nashville, Tenn. – MCA recording artist Josh Turner has released the video for his new single "Find Me A Baby" at both CMT and Great American Country (GAC). The touching video features real life families and was directed by Peter Zavidil. An announcement was posted on Josh’s socials and Craigslist looking for families to be a part of the video for “Find Me A Baby,” the second single from Turner’s new album Punching Bag. Fans were asked to share their families’ special story with their submission and the responses were overwhelming from families across the country. Each family has their own unique story whether they have lost loved ones, have family serving in the military, have or were foster children, have children with special needs, have adopted internationally and domestically, have children living with the challenges of cystic fibrosis, are being raised by grandparents or are high school sweethearts. The families where filmed in their cities and are featured in picture frames throughout the video. "The idea in the song is about family so the concept for the video was to make it about real families,” explains Zavidil. "I couldn’t bring Josh to the families and I couldn’t bring all of the families to Josh, therefore the cool way was to put them together in frames. Everyone has a family portrait in a frame in their home. This video is touching and aspiring." "My wife and boys sang on this song,” explains Turner. "It’s cool knowing their voices are in a special video like this that promotes marriage, family, and children. I have to give Peter all the credit for making this such a special and meaningful video.” A video can be seen on VEVO http://vevo.ly/W1Fu1c. Turner’s current album, Punching Bag, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Album Charts and Billboard ranked the album’s debut single, “Time Is Love,” as their #1 Country Song of the Year for 2012. Country Aircheck also ranked the single as the No. 3 Most Played Song of the Year. Also in 2012, Turner released a live album, Live Across America, exclusively with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®. A Hannah, S.C. native, Turner has been songwriting and performing since he was a young child, and in support of music education, created The Josh Turner Scholarship Fund to assist students interested in pursuing a future in arts/music. The scholarship fund is currently accepting applications for SC students at http://ht.ly/gNWAC. For more information on Josh Turner visit www.JoshTurner.com.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 23, 2013) – From times of great national tragedy to times of joyous patriotic celebration, the words of “God Bless the USA” have stood as one of our country’s most beloved anthems and the cornerstone song of those that best encompass pride in America. So much so, that CBS.com called the song, “the most recognizable patriotic song in the country.” Written by Grammy Award winning country star Lee Greenwood in 1983, the iconic song marks its 30th anniversary this year. Its life to date includes the distinction of being the only song of any genre to skyrocket up the sales charts multiple times since its original release in 1984. Radio stations and fans alike returned to the song in 1991 during the Gulf War, in 2001 following 9/11, in 2003 during the war in Iraq, and in 2009 following Hurricane Katrina. “God Bless the USA” had a resurgence in 2011, when Beyoncé recorded the song offering proceeds of the download to benefit the New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund. That same year, it was the winning song on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and performed on “American Idol.” Greenwood wrote “God Bless the USA” in response to the hurt and anger he felt following the downing of a Korean jet on a flight from New York to Seoul with 269 passengers aboard, including 63 Americans. Russian authorities shot the plane from the sky, killing all aboard because “they thought the airliner was on a spy mission.” “I saw the senseless strike as a personal attack against our countrymen and it moved me to put pen to paper,” says Greenwood. “The song came so easily, it nearly wrote itself.” The song hit an emotional chord with the American populace as well and “God Bless the USA” was named “Song of the Year” in 1985 at the CMA Awards. “After 9/11, it was a song of unity and rebuilding and after Hurricane Katrina, it was a song for life and hope. It just makes me really proud that I've done something for the country and for my family. It's my family's heritage,” Greenwood told AOL’s The Boot. Announced Tour Dates Include: February 8, 2013 – Nashville, TN – Grand Ole Opry March 2, 2013 – Rocky Mount, NC March 10, 2013 – Washington, D.C. – Constitution Hall May 25, 2013 – Gulfport, MS June 30, 2013 – Milner, GA July 3 – Hot Springs, AK July 6 – Williams Bay, WI July 20, 2013 – Columbus OH
“These dudes don’t show any signs of slowing down,” wrote Chuck Arnold about AEROSMITH in People magazine (November 2012). After a busy year that saw the band unleash its acclaimed 15th studio album MUSIC FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION! (Columbia) and triumph with two North American legs of The Global Warming Tour on which prisoners were indeed taken, Steven Tyler (vocals), Joe Perry (guitar), Brad Whitford (guitar), Tom Hamilton (bass) and Joey Kramer (drums) are ramping up 2013 with the release of the album’s new single, “Can’t Stop Lovin’ You.” Released to radio January 21, the song is in the powerful tradition of AEROSMITH’s widescreen ballads and features TYLER duetting with Carrie Underwood. The song was produced by Marti Frederiksen and Tyler, and written by Tyler, Frederiksen, Whitford, Kramer and Hamilton. The decision to ask Underwood to sing on “Can’t Stop Loving You” and enhance the country flavorings was natural. TYLER and had previously duetted on a mash-up of her hit "Undo It" and AEROSMITH’s "Walk This Way" at the 46th Annual Academy of Country Awards in 2011. In early 2012, the two were also paired for a CMT Crossroads special. In an interview with Rolling Stone.com about “Can’t Stop Loving You,” TYLER said, “I sang it a little country & western…and all along we thought, should we get someone in…It was last-minute. She [Carrie] was in town doing something. I called her up and she said, 'I'm leaving tomorrow.' And I said, 'Can you come over tonight?' I called Joe [Perry] up, and the rest is history. She just did it. It really does work.” "It's an honor to have my voice included on an Aerosmith record,” Carrie Underwood says. “I've had a blast working with Steven a number of times in the past, and this was another amazing thing we got to do together.” About AEROSMITH: AEROSMITH are a living piece of American music history, having sold over 150 million albums worldwide and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are the recipients of countless awards including four GRAMMYs, eight American Music Awards, six Billboard Awards and 12 MTV Video Music Awards among many other honors. Proving that they can cross genre-boundaries with ease, these rock legends have even taken home a Soul Train Award for Best Rap Single for their remix of Run DMC’s “Walk This Way.” With scores of multi-platinum albums, AEROSMITH continues to inspire generations to get their wings, get a grip and just push play. It is no wonder why they are one of the most beloved bands of all time.
Come Aboard at the Stroke of Midnight, Jan.31 Somewhere on the Water: Maybe it’s the time of the year, the sluggish economy, the boring job or the brutal cold, but sometimes, as members of the No Shoes Nation know, you just have to let your freak flag fly. No one understands better than Kenny Chesney that need to jettison the mundane and push back against the inertia of life. And so now in the dead of winter, the 4-time Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year rolls out an anthem of everyday insurrection and rebellion on one’s own terms. With “Pirate Flag,” written by David Lee Murphy (“Livin’ In Fast Forward,” “Dust on the Bottle”) and new-to-town Ross Copperman, Chesney offers an anthem for everyman that says, “Where I am may be great, but don’t think I’ll ever surrender to the 9-to-5.” “No matter where you are, no matter how you live,” says Chesney, “there is that part of you that yearns to be free, to say, ‘What the hell…’ and just do what you want to do! That’s what this song is all about. The freedom and the idea that you can just say, “Enough,’ even if it’s only in your mind, while you’re watching your boss’s mouth move and are dreaming of whatever gets you off. “That’s the beauty of this song: You can fly your pirate flag in your head, tack it up behind your computer at work, tattoo it under your skin – and no one has to know. Except you and your friends, the people who really matter!” The song, which will ship digitally to radio Jan 31, is a thrusting piece of power country that brings tempo to a boil without ever missing a beat. Emblematic of the songwriter/artist’s own will to sail his own course and to rock country his way, “Pirate Flag” also serves as a wake-up call for adventures to come. “Even me and the band can’t just run off and pitch a tent on some island, as much as we love doing it,” admits the man whose last ten tours have done in excess of a million tickets each year. “I think that’s why when we hit the stage, we hit it so hard – and the fans, those people from the No Shoes Nation, throw it back at us even harder. Because for us, that mutiny against real life happens in the music, happens at the shows, happens when all get together.” With his No Shoes Nation tour kicking off March 16 in Tampa, Fl, Chesney is ready to hoist the flag and shiver some timbers. And with “Pirate Flag,” he’s got just the song to do it. Though nothing like rest of the April 30 album it comes from, it’s the perfect song to launch a summer full of good times, great friends and awesome music.

TAYLOR SWIFT SCORES #1 POP HIT WITH “I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE.” TAYLOR IS FIRST ARTIST SINCE THE BEATLES TO SPEND SIX WEEKS OR MORE AT #1 WITH THREE CONSECUTIVE STUDIO ALBUMS SALES OF RED NOW TOP 5.4 MILLION ALBUMS, INCLUDING QUADRUPLE-PLATINUM U.S. CERTIFICATION Nashville, TN – January 22, 2013 – Six-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift this week reaches #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart with “I Knew You Were Trouble.”, from her 5+ million-selling current album RED. Released on Big Machine Records, RED has been certified 4X Platinum in the U.S. for sales in excess of 4 million albums, and the disc’s worldwide sales total is now past 5.4 million. The single “I Knew You Were Trouble.” has sold over 3 million copies in the U.S. alone, has topped the iTunes all genres chart, and is a worldwide smash, already reaching #1 in Australia and New Zealand, and rapidly ascending Top 10 airplay charts around the globe in the UK, Canada, and territories in Europe, Asia and Africa. The pop success of “Trouble” follows Taylor’s recent Billboard Hot 100 #1 and 3X Platinum single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” another worldwide chart-topper and the lead single from RED. Taylor first topped Billboard’s pop charts in 2009, when “Love Story” became the first country crossover to land at #1 on CHR/Top 40 in the 16-year history of Billboard’s Nielsen BDS chart. At Country radio, “Begin Again” is at #8* and climbing Billboard’s Top 10, with more than 25 million audience impressions this week alone. Taylor spent 9 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Country Songs chart with “Never Ever,” setting Billboard’s all-time record for most weeks at #1 on the Country chart by a female artist. With RED, Taylor Swift becomes the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 with three consecutive studio albums. RED has topped the Billboard 200 Albums Chart for seven weeks, following Fearless (11 weeks), and Speak Now (six weeks). Taylor has topped the Billboard album chart for 24 weeks in her 4-album career, holding the record (tied with Adele) for the most weeks by a female artist at #1 on the chart since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales figures for Billboard in 1991. This week, Taylor marked another Billboard milestone, as “The Moment I Knew,” from RED and just released at iTunes, became her 57th career Hot 100 charting single, pushing her past Madonna and Dionne Warwick to become the woman with the second-most number of charted singles in the chart’s 54-year history. Aretha Franklin holds the record. Next month, Taylor will perform on the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, where she is up for three trophies, including Record of the Year for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Taylor has added a New York-area stadium show to this year’s RED Tour lineup -- she will headline the MetLife Stadium on July 13th, following the rapid sell-outs of her three Prudential Center shows in March. The RED Tour will now include 13 stadium stops, for a total of 64 shows in 46 cities in 29 states and 3 provinces in 2013. A complete listing of tour dates, including future onsale information, is available at www.taylorswift.com. Taylor is in Europe this week for performances on the 40 PP Awards in Spain and the NRJ Music Awards in France. Earlier this month, she was named Favorite Country Artist at the People’s Choice Awards, her third consecutive win in that category. Over the holidays, DoSomething.Org ranked Taylor at #1 on their 2012 “Top Celebrities Gone Good” list, their annual year-end ranking of celebrity philanthropists.
