Nashville, TN (March 15, 2010)  -- The 28th Annual George Strait Team Roping Classicbegan Friday at the San Antonio Rose Palace with a total of 469 teams from all over the country vying for a spot in the Top 50 and a chance to compete for the Grand Prize. The Top 50 teams competed on Saturday and Coleman Proctor and Jake Long were named the Grand Champions of the 28th Annual GSTRC.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, Actor James Pickens, Jr., best known as Chief Richard Webber on the ABC series,"Grey's Anatomy," was spotted at the two-day event and visited with the Strait family.

It seems San Antonio hosts quite a number of the show’s fans including Strait’s niece Kara Strait Silva.

“You can’t say I’m obsessed really but I am a HUGE Grey’s fan!” said Silva. “I was actually nervous!”

Pickens enjoys roping in his spare time and is a member of the USTRC (United States Team Roping Championships).  He recently founded a non-profit charity called, the James Pickens Jr. Foundation, which will host its first annual roping event at the Tejon Ranch Equestrian
Center in Lebec, California on April 22, 2010.
