TOM T. HALL RECOGNIZED AS BMI ICON AT 60th ANNUAL BMI COUNTRY AWARDS

-- All-Star Lineup Pays Homage to One of the Original Master Craftsmen of Country Music -- -- Country Songs Make Up Half of Most-Performed Songs in 2011 from BMI Catalogue -- NASHVILLE, October 30, 2012 – Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the global leader in music rights management, honored its Country Songwriter, Song and Publisher of the Year at the 60th annual BMI Country Awards held at the company’s Nashville, TN building. Also saluted were the writers and publishers of the past year’s 50 most-performed songs on radio and TV from BMI’s country repertoire. In addition, the incredible songwriting career of Tom T. Hall was celebrated by naming him a BMI Icon. Hall joins other BMI Icons who have had “a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers” including Billy Sherrill, John Fogerty, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Isaac Hayes, Merle Haggard, Brian Wilson, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, the Bee Gees, Bobby Braddock, Bill Anderson, Ray Davies, James Brown and more. 10 of the top 20 most-performed works in the U.S. from BMI’s repertoire were country songs in 2011, accounting for more than 11 million radio and TV performances alone. If each performance were played back to back, the total time spent listening would be the equivalent of 66 consecutive years, underscoring the staggering volume of country music represented by BMI on the airwaves. Country music has achieved overwhelming success in the mainstream marketplace, and claims more terrestrial radio towers than any other format in the U.S. Dallas Davidson and Luke Laird shared the Songwriter of the Year crown contributing five songs each to the year’s most-performed list. Davidson is the writer behind hits “Country Girl (Shake It for Me)” and “I Don’t Want This Night to End” recorded by Luke Bryan; “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” by Justin Moore; and “Just a Kiss” and “We Owned the Night” recorded by Lady Antebellum. Laird penned smashes “A Little Bit Stronger” by Sara Evans; “Baggage Claim” by Miranda Lambert; “Drink in My Hand” by Eric Church; “You” by Chris Young; and “Take a Back Road,” recorded by Rodney Atkins. “Take a Back Road,” which Laird wrote with fellow BMI songwriter Rhett Akins, was named Song of the Year. Published by EMI-Blackwood Music, Inc. and Universal Music Careers, the smash earned more than one million performances in 2011 alone, making it one of the most-performed songs of the year in any genre of music. Publisher of the Year award was given to Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville. The powerhouse published 24 songs on the year’s most-performed list, including “Take a Back Road”; Taylor Swift’s “Mean”; Kenny Chesney’s “Live a Little”; Eli Young Band’s “Crazy Girl”; Keith Urban’s “You Gonna Fly”; The Band Perry’s “All Your Life”; Blake Shelton’s “Honey Bee”; and more. The night’s powerful musical tribute to Tom T. Hall featured recent chart-toppers The Avett Brothers, who took the stage to deliver “That's How I Got To Memphis”; bluegrass power duo Dailey & Vincent, who performed “Can You Hear Me Now”; prodigal son Justin Townes Earle, who sang ‘Homecoming”; and superstar Toby Keith who sang “Faster Horses (The Cowboy And The Poet)” accompanied by Scotty Emerick. As a recording artist, Hall had seven No. 1 singles, all self-penned: “A Week in a Country Jail” (1969–70), “The Year That Clayton Delaney Died” (1971),“(Old Dogs, Children and) Watermelon Wine” (1972–73),” “I Love” (1973–74), “Country Is” (1974), “I Care” (1974–75), and “Faster Horses (the Cowboy and the Poet)” (1976). The Grammy winner also wrote mega hits for others, including “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” which Jeannie C. Riley took to No. 1 on country and pop charts in 1968, as well as “The Pool Shark,” a chart-topper for Dave Dudley; “(Margie’s at) the Lincoln Park Inn" and “That’s How I Got to Memphis,” recorded by Bobby Bare; and “Little Bitty,” by no means a little bitty hit for Alan Jackson in the late 1990s. In total, Hall has earned a staggering 31 BMI Awards for songwriting spanning country and pop genres, and six of his songs have accumulated more than one million performances each. In 2008, he was welcomed into the Country Music Hall of Fame. “Tom T. Hall’s outstanding contributions of expertly crafted songs earned him the nickname “The Storyteller,” and as his songs have transitioned through traditional broadcasts and digital mediums, BMI has been proud to make that journey with him every step of the way, said BMI President & CEO Del Bryant. “Tom T. is the perfect example of why BMI’s determination and commitment to safeguard the value of music is so important.” BMI represents the finest talent from Nashville and around the world, including Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, The Band Perry, Zac Brown Band, Lee Brice, Hunter Hayes, and Little Big Town, as well as countless other superstars. The 2011 Academy of Country Music, Country Music Association and CMT awards pointed to BMI’s unequaled clout in the country format, as BMI members took home 89%, 76% and 83% of the hardware presented in those ceremonies, respectively.

Taylor at the Top

WITH MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION ALBUMS SOLD, TAYLOR SWIFT’S RED SCORES HIGHEST SOUNDSCAN SALES WEEK IN OVER A DECADE RED SETS NEW RECORD FOR HIGHEST WORLDWIDE DIGITAL ALBUM SALES DEBUT IN ITUNES HISTORY SWIFT EARNS CRITICAL RAVES AND SHATTERS SALES RECORDS WITH SECOND CONSECUTIVE MILLION-PLUS SELLING DEBUT Nashville, TN – October 31, 2012 – Billboard reports, “It's official: Taylor Swift's ‘RED’ sold a whopping 1.208 million copies last week in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan,” scoring music’s highest weekly sales number in more than a decade (since 2002’s The Eminem Show), and earning Taylor a new page in the history books as the only female artist (and the fourth artist ever) to hit the 1 million first-week figure twice since SoundScan began tracking actual sales in 1991. RED notched the 8th largest first-week debut in SoundScan chart history, and the 2nd biggest week ever for a female artist. RED, released on Big Machine Records, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (Taylor’s second consecutive million-plus album selling debut and third chart-topping album), and this week sold more than the rest of the albums in the Top 50 – combined. RED is only the 18th album in history to sell a million units in a single week; Taylor’s Speak Now album is another one of the 18, with a 2010 debut of more than 1.04 million copies. RED accounted for 19.3% of total albums sold this week -- one out of nearly every 5 CDs or downloads sold this week was Taylor’s RED album. With RED, Taylor set a new worldwide iTunes record for highest ever first-week album sales, with 565,545 copies sold digitally around the globe. RED reached #1 on the iTunes sales charts in 42 countries, and reached #1 on the national sales charts in the UK, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Malaysia, Ireland, Argentina, New Zealand, Ireland, and Australia, among others. RED also breaks iTunes’s first-week U.S. sales record, with more than 464,000 albums sold. At Target, RED set the retailer’s new one-week sales record with more than 396,000 CD sold -- Taylor’s Speak Now album previously held their record. RED also enters Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart at #1, and now owns the best one week sales total for any Country release in SoundScan history, surpassing the 1.08 million copies sold of Garth Brooks’ “Double Live” in 1998. Taylor now has two of the three biggest one week sales totals for any Country album in the SoundScan era. Critical acclaim for RED matches the disc’s sales and chart success, with continuing rave reviews from leading critics around the globe. "She's a lethally smart songwriter and there's this universality that speaks not just to young women, but everyone who wants to find love and has felt heartbreak," Bill Werde, editorial director of Billboard, told Reuters yesterday. “Ms. Swift has excelled….. now eight years removed from her debut single, [she] has become one of the most important pop artists of the last decade.” -- The New York Times “Swift is clearly a superstar for all seasons…..sheer genius.” – The Hollywood Reporter “Engaging….she continues to write ever-more convincingly.” – USA Today “RED is a terrific piece of work. A portrait of a young artist in full bloom.” – The Atlanta Journal-Constitution “Swift’s bare-all lyrics are sublime.” –The Sunday Times (UK) At radio, RED’s lead single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (which recently spent three weeks at #1 atop Billboard’s Hot 100 chart), spends its fourth week at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and is currently Top 5 on Billboard and Mediabase’s CHR chart, and Top 10 on the Hot AC and AC charts. Also, Taylor's single "Begin Again" is Top 20 on the Billboard & Mediabase Country radio charts, and is this week's Airpower title. The video for the song has already amassed over 8 million views online and is on the air in Power rotation. Taylor will perform “Begin Again” on the 46th Annual CMA Awards tomorrow night on ABC. RED topped the all-genre Top Albums chart at iTunes within 36 minutes of its release last week, and first day sales at iTunes alone topped 262,000 albums. Taylor scored 13 of the Top 20 songs on iTunes, with the song “Everything Has Changed” taking the #1 position on the all-genre Top Songs chart. Worldwide, RED reached #1 at iTunes on the first day of release in 32 countries, including the UK, Australia, Singapore, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Denmark, Venezuela, Thailand, and Ireland. With RED, Taylor set the new Billboard record for the most rapid accumulation of 50 Hot 100 hits in history, reaching the milestone just six years and one month after her 2006 chart debut. Taylor just announced The RED Tour, and is currently slated to headline 58 shows in 45 cities in 29 states and 3 provinces in 2013. She is Billboard’s reigning Woman of the Year, as well as the AMA’s current Artist of the Year and the CMA and ACM’s Entertainer of the Year. "We posted the full stream of the album on iTunes this past week, and the fan reaction has been incredible…really more than I ever expected," says Aldean. "They've been messaging me and tweeting about their favorite songs, and I love getting that feedback directly from them. I named the album NIGHT TRAIN because I think it sums up where my career is at the moment and how quickly things seem to be moving…it's almost hard for me to even comprehend. That name wouldn't work without my fans, so I want to thank them for allowing me to continue to make records and for buying tickets to my shows. 2013 is already stacking up to be an exciting year with some big surprises in store for them!" After being spotlighted in The New York Times and USA Today as one of the most anticipated albums of Fall, NIGHT TRAIN reviews are already rolling in, with USA Today featuring it on the cover of today's Life section and the Newark Star Ledger raving that it is "a country album that leads with its intelligence and muscle. There is no better persuader in Nashville — no artist better suited to convincing the uncommitted pop listener who’d like to give country music a try, but doesn’t know where to start." Entertainment Weekly calls Aldean's delivery "EPIC," Billboard points to the singer pushing the limits to move his "sound forward sonically, vocally and lyrically," and Country Weekly concludes with "it's clear he can do it all pretty damn good." In true Aldean fashion, NIGHT TRAIN offers 15 songs that cover broad turf, expressly building on his reputation for finding quality songs and defying categorization. Highlights include an unapologetic celebration of the American work ethic on "The Only Way I Know," a collaboration with friends Luke Bryan and Eric Church, the intense vocal deliveries of mid-tempo love songs "Staring At The Sun" and the title track, and the addictive ear worm that's sure to prompt an onset of nostalgia for the year "1994." The album has already produced a record-breaking, three-week No. one single with “Take A Little Ride” and comes on the heels of the top-selling country album of last year and reigning CMA Album of the Year MY KINDA PARTY. The Georgia native recently earned three Country Music Association Awards nominations for the Nov. 1 show, in the categories of Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year for "Dirt Road Anthem." Additionally, he has sold out every show on his MY KINDA PARTY TOUR presented by State Farm®, – often in minutes at the day of on sale – and has broken over 40 venue attendance records. BRAD PAISLEY HAS A COW!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2012) This past weekend Brad Paisley sent WYCD-FM Detroit morning show producer and co-host Steve Gunwald on a mission. His goal was to purchase and deliver a cow to an African tribal chief in Kenya. Grunwald made the trip and accomplished the task by presenting a young female calf, “Paisley,” to the Chief of the Masai tribe on behalf of Paisley. The traveling saga began in 2007 when Paisley bet Grunwald that he could not travel to 10 countries in 10 days – Grunwald accepted the wager and took along a life-size Paisley cut out to document his travels with photos. Grunwald has kept in contact with some of the people he met his first trip to Africa and recently received a request to provide the Kenyan tribe a cow – something that would support the whole village for a long time. Grunwald made this known to Paisley and in a recent interview Paisley offered to fund the trip and “The Brad Paisley Cow Project” began! Grunwald documented his entire journey through up-to-the-minute blog entries, updating fans throughout his travels. The daily blogs can be found the radio station’s website, http://wycd.cbslocal.com/tag/brad-paisley-cow-project/

David Nail Gets First American Country Awards Nod --

David Nail Gets First American Country Awards Nod -- Historic #1 “Let It Rain” Up for Single of the Year by a Breakthrough Artist Las Vegas: David Nail walked off with his first nomination for the American Country Awards, set to air Dec. 10, live on Fox. “Let It Rain,” his record-making #1, is among the nominees for Single of the Year by a Breakthrough Artist at the 3rd annual awards. “I couldn’t be prouder,” says the Grammy nominated vocalist, who’s been called “Stunning” by Billboard. “Not only was ‘Let It Rain’ my first #1 record… and they told me it was the slowest rising #1 in any genre… I got to co-write it with Jonathan Singleton, so there were so many different firsts for me, all in one.” The song of reckoning and consequences for one night of breaking a vow, “Let It Rain” was the single that wouldn’t die. Finally finding the top of the charts after 49 weeks, Nail performed the song that same week on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” “Almost a year later, it’s great to be recognized at he American Country Awards,” Nail says. “It’s the most progressive awards show, for sure… and they actually let the fans vote for the music they love, with nominations based on things like airplay, music sold and touring.” In its third year, the American Country Awards works with Mediabase (airplay), Pollstar (touring), Great American Country (video) and Big Champagne (record sales and media consumption) to determine the nominees in the 21 categories to be awarded at the Mandalay Bay Resort. The Nashville Songwriters Association International determines the Song of the Year nominees based on their annual I Wish I Wrote That Song designation. The Washington Post declared, “David Nail’s robust tenor is the most limber and soulful this side of Ronnie Dunn,” Entertainment Weekly offered, “a voice that’s even easier listening than Keith Urban’s,” The Los Angeles Times cited his affinity for “songs that chip away at loss, regret, missteps and other human failings, grist for the richest life lessons… Nail seems eager to take on real life,” while The Dallas Morning News wrote, “David Nail travels the dusky crossroad between modern country and pop-soul. his soaring tenor has a burnished quality that straddles earnest and passionate.” Currently on a headlining tour in support of his The Sound of a Million Dreams album and the stripped down 1979 ep, Nail will make an appearance at Leadership Nashville’s Dale Franklin Awards Ceremony in Nashville on Oct. 17. Look for Nail to crown his stint opening shows for Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Billy Currington and Gavin DeGraw with a string of dates with the legendary Alan Jackson.

Jamey Johnson Will Release Star-Studded Hank Cochran Tribute Album on Tuesday Oct. 16

He Performs on Imus in the Morning on Thursday and Is Joined by Alison Krauss Friday on The Late Show with David Letterman NASHVILLE, TN – Award-winning singer/songwriter Jamey Johnson is joined by some of the greatest names in country music on his new album, Living For a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran, that will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and is already receiving rave reviews. Johnson is joined on the album by Asleep at the Wheel, Bobby Bare, Hank Cochran, Elvis Costello, Ronnie Dunn, Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson, Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson, Ray Price, Leon Russell, George Strait and Lee Ann Womack. Johnson will perform a few songs on Imus in the Morning on Thursday. On Friday, he will be joined by Alison Krauss to perform “Make the World Go Away” on The Late Show with David Letterman. On Monday, Oct. 15, Johnson will discuss the project with Eddie Stubbs on WSM-AM at 7 p.m. CT. On Tuesday, Oct. 16, Johnson will celebrate the album’s release with a concert at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium, where he will be joined by some of his duet partners. In addition, Johnson will reveal his fall tour next week. Living For a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran is receiving tremendous reviews. Describing “Make the World Go Away,” Rolling Stone says, “… Johnson’s old-school romantic nihilism intertwines with Krauss’ hummingbird-precise voice. Framed by a circling steel guitar, the plea for love in dark days feels as timely as a Twitter feed.” Noting that Johnson says, “Hank’s songs bring out the best in everybody,” the Philadelphia Inquirer says, “That’s certainly the case with the deep-voiced Johnson himself, who shows he’s as good with an elegant, world-weary ballad as he is with up-tempo honkytonk. It’s also true of the big-name guests who sing with him here.” The Inquirer’s four-star review continues, “Cochran himself joins Nelson, Haggard and Kristofferson in a quietly poignant take on ‘Living for a Song,’ a number that beautifully lays out the life of those who write songs for a living—something Cochran did as well as anyone.” Entertainment Weekly says, “Hank Cochran's life was like a country song: He toiled away in orphanages and oil fields before making it as a singer-songwriter. And Nashville outlaw Johnson captures that hardscrabble romanticism on these Cochran covers, especially the slow-burning duets '’Don't Touch Me'’ (with Emmylou Harris) and ‘Make the World Go Away’ (with Alison Krauss).” Cochran, who died at age 74 in 2010, is considered one of the greatest songwriters in the history of country music. He helped create the template for writing the perfect country song and had an uncanny knack for capturing the gut-wrenching depths of heartache so powerfully, yet so simply. “If I had to dream up somebody like Hank to influence songwriters, I couldn’t have done a better job,” Johnson says. “That’s what he was-- not just for me, but for Willie and for a lot of people--just a helpful friend. If he knew you needed help with something, he could help you. He was there. And that’s what I want to be for the people in my life, same as Hank. He influenced me, not only as an artist and songwriter, but also as a person.” Cochran was a songwriter’s songwriter and a singer’s singer. “Well, really, when you start talking about songwriters, you’ve got to say his name first,” says Nelson. “Then you start talking about everybody else. I think everybody would agree that Hank was the best writer up there.” Haggard says, “It’s important historically for people to know who Hank Cochran was and what he did. He always wanted to be the Hemingway of country music and I think he did it.” The Cochran tribute is Johnson’s follow-up to his critically acclaimed 25-song double album, The Guitar Song, which was among the most-lauded albums of 2010, receiving country album of the year nominations from the Grammys and the Academy of Country Music. It was certified gold and ranked No. 5 on both Rolling Stone’s and Spin’s albums of the year lists. He also released 2008’s That Lonesome Song, which was certified platinum and universally hailed by critics as a masterpiece. He has emerged as one of the most important country artists of the last decade, both as a recording artist and songwriter. In 2007, he won Song of the Year from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music for co-writing the George Strait hit “Give It Away.” He won Song of the Year from both organizations two years later for “In Color,” and also received five Grammy nominations during 2009-10. Track listing: “Make the World Go Away” – Jamey Johnson and Alison Krauss “I Fall to Pieces” – Jamey Johnson and Merle Haggard “A Way to Survive” – Jamey Johnson, Vince Gill and Leon Russell “Don’t Touch Me” – Jamey Johnson and Emmylou Harris “You Wouldn’t Know Love” – Jamey Johnson and Ray Price “I Don’t Do Windows” – Jamey Johnson and Asleep at the Wheel “She’ll Be Back” – Jamey Johnson and Elvis Costello “Would These Arms Be in Your Way” – Jamey Johnson “The Eagle” – Jamey Johnson and George Strait “A-11” – Jamey Johnson and Ronnie Dunn “I’d Fight the World” – Jamey Johnson and Bobby Bare “Don’t You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me” – Jamey Johnson and Willie Nelson “This Ain’t My First Rodeo” – Jamey Johnson and Lee Ann Womack “Love Makes a Fool of Us All” – Jamey Johnson and Kris Kristofferson “Everything But You” – Jamey Johnson, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson and Leon Russell “Living for a Song” – Jamey Johnson, Hank Cochran, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson

BARBRA STREISAND INCLUDES LARRY GATLIN-PENNED “TRY TO WIN A FRIEND” ON NEW ALBUM, RELEASE ME

Nashville, Tenn. (October 10, 2012) - Entertainment icon Barbra Streisand has included the Larry Gatlin-penned “Try To Win A Friend” on her latest album, Release Me. Originally recorded in the late 1970s, Streisand picked the song from her vault, which contains recordings spanning from 1963 to 2011. “Try To Win A Friend” was one of Streisand’s favorite songs to play as she practiced her new guitar skills for the filming of “A Star is Born.” Unfortunately, the scenes she was practicing for ended up on the cutting room floor but she recalls meeting Gatlin and practicing the song with him in her home. “I remember meeting Larry Gatlin and having him come over to my house,” recalls Streisand. “It was such a thrill to have him play it and I love the way he sang.” On Streisand releasing his song, Gatlin notes, “If I could pick one female pop artist to record one of my songs, it would be Barbra, and every songwriter on the planet would agree. If they tell you different, they’re lyin’! Thank you Barbra!” A special vinyl version of Release Me hit retail stores on September 25 and the CD and digital download were released nationally yesterday.

Second Annual Johnny Cash Music Fest Raises Funds Proceeds Go Towards Rebuilding Boyhood Home and Funding Scholarships

Nashville, TN October 8, 2012 -- The second annual Johnny Cash Music Festival, held October 5th on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, raised approximately $200,000 according to the show's executive producer Bill Carter. Like last year’s sold out concert, proceeds from this year’s event will fund the restoration of the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess, Arkansas, as well as support a scholarship fund established in the international superstar’s name. This year's event starred Johnny's daughter Rosanne, who also hosed the event, Willie Nelson, Dierks Bentley and the Civil Wars. The goal is to establish the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home as a museum to honor the legacy of the Man in Black. Keeping the attraction in Cash’s hometown of Dyess will help boost the local economy. It is of interest to note another piece of historical data attached to the house. Cash’s family moved to Dyess and the 40 acres of land as part of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal. According to Carter, plans are already underway for next year's event, which will mark the 10th anniversary of Cash's death.

NSAI PRESENTS ANNUAL AWARDS

NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME INDUCTS TONY ARATA, MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER, LARRY HENLEY, KIM WILLIAMS
Nashville, TN October 8, 2012 -- Country artist and songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter and songwriters Tony Arata, Larry Henley and Kim Williams were inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall Fame during the organization's 42nd Anniversary Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction Ceremony, held last night at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Presented by AT&T, the event celebrated the musical contributions of the newest inductees through star-studded performances of some of their biggest hits. “It was an evening worthy of these great songwriters and the contributions they have made to put the music in Music City,” said John Van Mol, Chairman of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation. “The evening also capped a week of major news for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. We announced last week that the Hall of Fame will soon have a physical home in the brand new Music City Center, where people will be able to see, hear and learn about the contributions and work of Nashville’s best songwriters.” Van Mol added that the Songwriters Hall of Fame will open when the new Music City Center opens in the spring of 2013 and that Sunday’s inductees will be a part of the new exhibit along with the 184 celebrated songwriters who preceded them into the Hall of Fame. Additionally, Van Mol announced the official launch of a capital campaign to ensure the continued funding of the exhibit. Early contributions from Foundation Board members, ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and music publishers Sony/ATV, Universal and Warner Chappell, among other music industry leaders, have already laid the groundwork for construction to begin at the Music City Center. More support is being solicited from donors both inside and outside the music industry to assure the exhibit’s completion and long-term success. Larry Henley was the first of this year’s inductees to be honored and was inducted by Richard Leigh, another Hall of Fame member. Bekka Bramlett and Billy Burnette performed a medley of the Henley songs “Til I Get It Right,” “Is It Still Over,” “Lizzie And The Rainman” and “He's A Heartache.” Country artist Trisha Yearwood closed out the set with "The Wind Beneath My Wings." Superstar Garth Brooks then took the stage to welcome his friend and co-writer Kim Williams into the elite organization. In a one man tour de force, Brooks performed a medley of Williams’ songs that included “Papa Loved Mama,” “New Way To Fly” and “Three Wooden Crosses." Brooks was himself inducted into the Hall of Fame last year. Next up, hit recording artist and songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter was inducted by Hall of Fame songwriter Don Schlitz. Marc Cohn took the stage to perform “The Hard Way” and was followed by Yearwood, who sang “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her.” The final inductee of the evening was Tony Arata, who was welcomed by Hall of Fame songwriter Pat Alger. Songwriter friends Fred Knobloch, Jelly Roll Johnson and Pete Wasner performed a medley of the Arata compositions “Here I Am,” "Holding My Own” "The Change” and "I Used To Worry." Garth Brooks took the stage once more and closed the evening with “The Dance." In a special tribute alongside the hall of fame inductions, Kix Brooks, Don Cook and Paul Worley announced that the 2012 recipient of the Frances Williams Preston Mentor Award was the late Donna Hilley, former president and chief executive officer of Sony/ATV Nashville. Accepting on behalf of Ms. Hilley were her daughters Vickie Arney, Debbie Tenpenny and Whitney Stewart. In addition to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductions, NaSHOF's sister organization, the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), presented its annual Songwriter Achievement Awards. The organization's professional songwriter members voted "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton as their Song of the Year. The song was a mainstay at radio this year following the untimely death of superstar Whitney Houston in February. DARIUS RUCKER INVITED TO JOIN GRAND OLE OPRY

Formal Induction to air live on “Noteworthy At The Opry” October 16
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - (October 2, 2012) Award-winning country music artist Darius Rucker was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry this evening by Opry member and friend Brad Paisley. He will formally be inducted into the Opry on Tues., Oct. 16. That show will air live on “Noteworthy at the Opry” on GAC at 8 p.m. Central. After Rucker had performed his hits “Alright” and “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” as well as his current single “True Believers,” Rucker agreed to field questions from members of the audience. After answering questions posed by two fans, a third “fan”, Opry member Brad Paisley, appeared in the audience with a two-part question. First question: “Are you still the worst poker player in the world?” Second question: “Would you like to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry?” Managing an “Oh, you’re kiddin’ me,” “Yes, I would!” and “Wow!,” Rucker embraced Paisley, who added, “Welcome him home, everybody! This is his new home right here!” After Rucker performed “Wagon Wheel” and Paisley performed a set of his own, Rucker returned to the stage saying, “You guys got to share one of the most special nights of my life tonight.” Addressing his new Opry family, he added, “Thank you for opening your arms and letting me in.” “We are extremely excited that Darius will be joining our Opry family,” said Opry Vice President and General Manager Pete Fisher. “He’s forged an incredible, diverse musical path which has led today to the top of the country charts. It’s been clear from the moment Darius first stepped on our stage in 2008 in what high regard he holds the Grand Ole Opry and similarly how much Opry fans love Darius’ music. We look forward to him becoming an official Opry member in just a couple of weeks.” Rucker topped the charts again with the release of his sophomore country album, Charleston, SC 1966, on Capitol Records Nashville. Since its October 2010 debut, Charleston, SC 1966 has garnered two No. 1 hits with “Come Back Song” and “This.” USA Today raved, "Rucker has made a fine-sounding country album, full of singable choruses, bittersweet fiddle and steel, and guitars with bottomless twang," and Rolling Stone said, “On his Nashville debut, Rucker's rich baritone, sentimental ballads and bright hooks made him the most successful African-American country singer since Charley Pride. Rucker amps up that formula on album number two." The debut in referral is his chart-topping 2008 release, Learn To Live – an album that produced three consecutive No. 1 singles and Top 5 smash, “History In The Making.” Darius recently completed his third solo country album due out in early 2013 with lead single, “True Believers,” at radio now.
