Things that make you go HMMM

VA: Military absentee ballots going AWOL in 2012 By Kenric Ward, Virginia Watchdog FREDERICKSBURG — A 92 percent drop in absentee-ballot requests by military personnel in Virginia is raising concerns that the Pentagon is failing to carry out a federal voting law. With only 1,746 military voters in Virginia requesting absentee ballots so far this year — out of 126,251 service members in the state —the Military Voter Protection Project says the system has broken down. And it’s not just in the Old Dominion. MVPP Executive Director Eric Eversole reports significant declines in absentee-ballot requests by service members across the nation. Compiling data from Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, Alaska, Colorado and Nevada, Eversole’s organization found that military families have requested 55,510 absentee ballots so far this year. That’s a sharp decline from the 166,252 sought in those states in 2008.

Statement..from Jason Aldean

Hey Guys – I wanted to talk to you directly, so you were hearing the truth from me and not just reading allegations made about my personal life on gossip web sites. The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar. I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that's the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself. I'm not perfect, and I'm sorry for disappointing you guys. I really appreciate being able to work through this privately with my family and for all your continued support.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD LAUNCHES 55-CITY NORTH AMERICAN LEG OF “BLOWN AWAY TOUR” THIS FRIDAY BLOWN AWAY ALBUM LANDS 7th WEEK AT NO. 1 Nashville – (September 13, 2012) – Superstar Carrie Underwood will begin her much anticipated 55-city headline North American arena tour this Friday, “The Blown Away Tour,” in Manchester, New Hampshire with special guest Hunter Hayes. The shows are presented and hydrated by vitaminwater®, sponsored by Olay, and promoted by AEG Live. In perfect timing with the tour launch, Carrie’s album Blown Away remains in the No. 1 position this week on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart, marking seven weeks spent in the top spot since its debut in May. Blown Away is also back in the Top 5 of Billboard’s 200 All Genre Sales chart. The album’s million-selling status designates Carrie as the only American Idol winner to have four albums achieve Platinum success. Carrie is donating $1 from each ticket sold on the North American leg of “The Blown Away Tour” to support Red Cross disaster relief. Every year, the American Red Cross prepares for and responds to nearly 70,000 disasters across the United States. This donation will help the Red Cross provide shelter, food, and emotional support for those in need after a disaster. Proceeds from her Canadian concerts will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross. Carrie’s two previous headline tours, 2008’s “Carnival Ride Tour” and 2010’s “Play On Tour,” performed for a combined total of nearly 250 shows with 2.2 million fans in attendance, and she wrapped both years as the top-ranked female country touring artist. Blown Away made history this spring by debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart making Carrie only the second country artist in the 47-year history of the chart to have each of their first four albums debut at No. 1. Blown Away also debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart making Carrie only the second country artist in history to have three consecutive albums debut at No. 1. Blown Away became country’s best-selling digital album debut since 2010. “Good Girl,” her first single from Blown Away, has already achieved the No. 1 slot on both Billboard and Country Aircheck’s country airplay charts and became her 15th No. 1 single. Blown Away’s second single and title track continues to climb the top 10 on the Billboard country airplay chart. This marks Underwood’s 16th single to reach the Top 10, which according to Billboard is the first time a female has ever had their first 16 singles all reach the Top 10 in the tally’s 68-year history. Since releasing Some Hearts in 2005, Carrie has sold more than 15 million albums with Some Hearts, 2007’s Carnival Ride, and 2009’s Play On making her the best-selling American Idol in the U.S. She’s accumulated 15 No. 1 singles, seven of which she co-wrote, and became the first country artist in history and the only American Idol winner ever to achieve 10 No. 1 singles from their first two albums. She is a five-time Grammy winner, a two-time Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, a three-time Country Music Association and ACM Female Vocalist winner, and a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry. Carrie will return to co-host the 46th Annual CMA Awards with Brad Paisley on Nov. 1 on the ABC Television Network. Carrie recently received her seventh nomination in the Female Vocalist of The Year category. Hunter Hayes, the multi-talented writer, musician, producer, and performer, is the only country artist to play every instrument, write/co-write every song, and co-produce his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. As both the 2012 CMA and ACM New Artist of the Year nominee, Hunter has been touring and performing live for decades. He has played to sold out venues across the US and Canada on his MOST WANTED headline tour and is currently putting the finishing touches on preparations for touring with Carrie Underwood on her “Blown Away Tour” this fall. The Louisiana native has also shared the stage with Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, and Hank Williams, Jr. This multi-instrumentalist continues to garner praise from fans and critics alike as he made his world-premiere national television debut on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman and also performed with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and on Good Morning America. His current hit "Wanted" was recently certified Platinum by the RIAA. COUNTRY HITMAKER LEE BRICE MINES RIAA GOLD WITH CURRENT SINGLE “HARD TO LOVE” Nashville, TN – Sept. 13, 2012 – CMA "New Artist of the Year" nominee Lee Brice’s current Top 15 single “Hard To Love” has officially been certified GOLD by the RIAA for digital sales of over 500,000 downloads. “I don’t really know what to say except thank you to my fans for all the support,” said Brice. “I can tell when I’m out there on the road every night that the momentum of this song just keeps picking up and it's because my fans continue to believe in me…they’ve stuck by me and I can tell they’re in for the long haul.” Critics including The New York Times have applauded the former-football player’s signature dynamic delivery, “He’s melodically eloquent, and stoic enough that his emotional breakdowns have real potency.” Brice’s “Hard To Love” is the second single off his sophomore effort on Curb Records by the same name. The album’s PLATINUM certified lead single “A Woman Like You” also carries the South Carolina native’s endearing charm and earnest baritone vocals, and set the pace earlier this year by scoring the No. one position on the country radio charts. Brice’s previous studio album LOVE LIKE CRAZY’s title track spawned Billboard’s most played country song of 2010. Billboard recognized Brice again this year as a songwriter for the most played country song of 2011, “Crazy Girl,” which also earned him a 2012 ACM Award for "Song Of The Year." Brice’s name can be found in the writing credits for additional hits recorded by country stars including Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton and more. Taylor Swift arrives in Rio

TAYLOR SWIFT SPENDS 3RD WEEK AT #1 ON BILLBOARD’S HOT 100 CHART “WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER” TOPS MORE THAN 1.4 MILLION DOWNLOAD SALES IN THE U.S. AND HAS MORE THAN 385 MILLION RADIO AUDIENCE IMPRESSIONS BILLBOARD REPORTS: “‘NEVER, EVER’ CLAIMS THE LONGEST RULE ATOP THE HOT 100 FOR A COUNTRY SONG IN ALMOST 32 YEARS” Nashville, TN – September 13, 2012 – “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” the lead single from 6-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift’s forthcoming album, Red, this week spends its third week at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 all-format singles chart, which factors in both sales and radio airplay. The single has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. Since its release on August 13th, "Never Ever" has sold in excess of 1.4 million downloads in the U.S., and made more than 385 million all-format audience impressions at radio. The song’s debut sales of 623,000 downloads was the biggest opening-week for a song by a woman in SoundScan history, and the second-biggest debut ever. Worldwide, the single has already reached the #1 position atop the iTunes charts in 32 countries. The song is also #1 for the fourth consecutive week on Billboard’s all-genre Hot Digital Songs chart. Billboard reports: “The three weeks at #1 for "Never" represent the longest Hot 100 reign for a country title since Kenny Rogers' "Lady" led for six weeks, beginning Nov. 15, 1980. Not only does "Never" boast the longest Hot 100 domination for any country song since "Lady," but it also scores the longest such lead by a woman since Debby Boone arrived with her 10-week Hot 100 No. 1 "You Light Up My Life," which also rose to No. 4 on Hot Country Songs, in 1977.” Taylor also scored this week’s Hot 100 highest debut, as her charity single, “Ronan,” charts at #16. Taylor performed “Ronan,” an unreleased, never-before-performed song about a very special little boy, on last week’s “Stand Up To Cancer” telethon. 3-year old Ronan Thompson passed away last year after battling neuroblastoma. Taylor followed his mom’s blog and wrote this song for his family. She credits Ronan’s mom, Maya, as a co-writer on the song, as her strength, her words, her hope, and her beautiful little boy were the song’s inspiration. The song was made available on iTunes immediately following Friday’s Stand Up To Cancer broadcast, and reached the #1 all-genre position within hours. All of Taylor’s proceeds from the song will go to cancer-related charities. “Ronan” will not be on Taylor’s forthcoming studio album, Red. Taylor is in Brazil this week doing pre-promotion for Red, which will be released on October 22nd on Big Machine Records in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Japan, and in conjunction with Universal Music Group International in the rest of the world. Universal Republic handles non-country radio for the project in the U.S.

Lady A in Christmas Spirit Early

GRAMMY AWARD WINNING TRIO LADY ANTEBELLUM TO SPREAD THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT WITH RELEASE OF CHRISTMAS ALBUM ON THIS WINTER’S NIGHT OUT OCT. 22 Trio Receives CMA Nominations for “Album of the Year” and “Vocal Group of the Year” Nashville, TN – Sept. 10, 2012 – Reigning CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year Lady Antebellum prepares for the changing seasons with the announcement of a Christmas album ON THIS WINTER’S NIGHT, available in stores on Oct. 22. “I love the excitement, the child-like spirit of innocence and just about everything that goes along with Christmas,” said Hillary Scott. “My little sister will be 12 this Christmas and it is always so sweet to see her wake up every Christmas morning and wonder what Santa brought her. It was that way for me growing up and it’s so amazing to be able to spend that time with her now.” “The perfect winter's night for me would be with all the family together,” added Charles Kelley. “As you get a little older and everybody has their jobs and then families and kids, it definitely becomes harder to get everybody together at once. It would be pretty special to have the whole family in the room and get back to where we were as kids…all waking up on Christmas morning, walking down and having that tradition.” “We recorded this album in two sections, but both times were in the summertime,” noted Dave Haywood. “It is always weird to be in the studio working on Christmas music in June and July, so we decorated the entire studio, we really did. We brought out lights, fake trees and decorated the place to get in the Christmas spirit. You'd leave the studio, and it'd be 100 degrees out in Nashville, but nonetheless, a great experience.“ Between legs of their OWN THE NIGHT 2012 WORLD TOUR earlier this year, Lady A hit the studio in Nashville to record the new collection where they also return as co-producers alongside veteran producer Paul Worley. For the festive release, the trio penned the album’s title track and created their own arrangements for two of the disc’s additional 11 holiday classics. ON THIS WINTER’S NIGHT Track List: 1. A Holly Jolly Christmas 2. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) 3. All I Want For Christmas Is You 4. I’ll Be Home For Christmas 5. This Christmas 6. The First Noel* 7. On This Winter’s Night 8. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow 9. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas 10. Silent Night (Lord Of My Life)* 11. Blue Christmas 12. Silver Bells *Arranged by Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott The Christmas album follows their Platinum third disc Own The Night, which debuted at the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and has spawned two No. 1 hits “We Owned The Night” and “Just A Kiss,” tallying six career chart-topping hits. After selling 10 million albums across the globe, the six-time CMA Award winning group received two nominations last week for Album of the Year for OWN THE NIGHT and Vocal Group of the Year for the upcoming 46th Annual CMA Awards scheduled to air Nov.1 on ABC. Lady A is currently in the studio in the beginning stages of recording new music while also preparing for the final leg of their OWN THE NIGHT 2012 WORLD TOUR. The tour will come to a close in Oct. in Australia and has already wrapped legs in the US, Canada and Europe. For a full list of upcoming tour dates and for more info on new music, visit
