Nashville, TN (July 6, 2011) -  Country music superstar Martina McBride celebrated America’s independence with 800,000 people in Boston when she performed at the annual BOSTON POPS FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR on July 4th. In addition, 6.5 million viewers tuned in to McBride’s performance, broadcast live from the Charles River Esplanade in Boston on the CBS Television Network. McBride was the special musical guest in place of previously-announced Lionel Richie, who is suffering with strained vocal cords.

“I was so grateful to be asked to fill in and so thrilled to be able to do it,” exclaims McBride. “Standing in front of the amazing Boston Pops in such a great and historic city in front of a crowd of 800,000 people on our country's Independence Day was something I will never forget.”

The special won its time period in viewers and posted year-to-year gains in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings for Monday, July 4.
